Hi, backer #1936 here.
I've had my board for over a year, but never seen it boot Had a few other things going on (new job, new house, moved country...) so I've been slow to get round to using the parallella.
Originally I had one of the batch of faulty power supplies with a blinking LED. While trying to work out what was happening I suspected the PSU and tried using a 'universal' DC supply from Maplin (I'm in the UK, it's kinda like Radio Shack) which has a selector pot on it for what voltage you get. Anyway, that didn't work either. I eventually got a replacement PSU sent to me from parallella (thanks!) once I heard my original PSU had a known failure. I've tried that, but the board is still dead - no LEDs, nothing on HDMI, just a spinning fan. I borrowed a friends' multimeter and checked the three PSUs - the new one is great - about 5.1v. unfortunately I can see my universal supply puts out 16v no matter what voltage I select on the dial. It used to work fine! So I guess I blew something.
So my question is, is the board likely to be wrecked by +16v, or is there a component I could potentially (no pun intended) replace? It's been a long time but I used to fix SMT boards by hand about 20 years ago when I worked at a electronics factory, so I'll have a go...
cheers,
Justin
