Using/downloading Android as OS

This is a great idea, I also wonder if it's a bit early however. I fully believe the community will iron out alot of things on the basic linux distros that will pave the way for Android.

When the drivers are a little more solid I can try my hand at porting a some to droid's native extensions. With linux support in place, a lot can be achieved by simple remaps for much of the code and some can stay the same.

Hi,

This is Chaitanya. Eager to receiving Parallella in Oct 2013.

I'm also very much interested in Android on Parallella.
By the time, we get hands on the actual board, let's try to get ready for the Android porting.
Zynq already has Android 2.3 ported, though it is not officially, supported by Xilinx.

Anyone already working on it?

Since there is definite interest in getting Android up and running on Parallella I'll create a new forum under Projects and will move this thread there.

It would probably be best if we could start new posts on specific porting etc. related matters.

Took me a while to understand exactly what "best if we could start new posts on specific porting etc" was driving at.

How to explain ... best if I give an example from personal experience:-

A while ago I bought a no-name Chinese single core £50 tablet.
Found it was called a DISGO7000.
It came with Android as standard.

I recently bought another Chinese quad-core £90 tablet.
Found it was an ICOU ICOO8GT.
It came with Android as standard.

I have several sub-$100 quad-core developer boards made by Hardkernel. Low volume BTW.
Android is available via free downloads supported by ubergeek "mdrjr".

My point is simple, if those cheap, relatively low-volume tablets/dev boards can hit the market with Android as the norm at such a low price point ........ then surely someone, somewhere inside Parallella can do the same job.

For the common good/promotion of the product?

Or maybe Parallella could approach Google
