Likelihood of distro-independence?

I just got my P16's, and I have a couple questions about the future of flexibility (and user friendliness thereof) as it applies to Parallella.
I wanted to know what the general process is for bringing additional distributions to Parallela. If I wanted to boot from USB flash to install general Ubuntu/Debian/Fedora/Gentoo to MicroSD, what would we need? ARM(hf) is a common platform, but I'm sure the installation media would need drivers for some things. (HDMI, Epiphany, etc.)
Subsequently, once (if?) USB boot works, will distribution repositories contain packages for non-essential software (e.g. COPRTHR, SDK, source, etc.)?
