Parallella Community

I am trying to make the ip address static on my parallella and can't sort out why it doesn't work. I use this procedure on other ubuntu distributions. I do know something is different, parts of what I use are not even available.

I have edited /etc/network/interfaces:

iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.112
gateway 192.168.1.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
dns-nameservers my dns servers

the address is reserved on my router
then I invoke:

sudo service network-manager restart
sudo service networking restart
sudo service resolvconf restart

and differently then on my ubuntu desktop
sudo service resolvconf restart reports no such service.

I thought I could reboot and solve the problem but that didn't work either.

Is there a better way or did I do something wrong?

I rechecked that it was eth0 and it was.

I added the line

auto eth0, not sure why I didn't put it in before

I looked in the file /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and the ip address wasn't the one I see on ifconfig -a, not sure what it is so I deleted the file.

on reboot ifconfig -a reports the correct ip address.

my router doesn't report it as an attached device
ifconfig -a reports that packets are being sent and received with no errors
the file /etc/udev/rules.d/70* is not regenerated
firefox cannot open a link

Problem solved, I added the following to /etc/resolv.conf

nameserver 192.168.1.1
