While this class of device doesn't have have much exposure compared to other robotics, there's quite a large market for improvements. Smart pigs are basically shuttles that zip through large, highly pressurized pipe systems to perform measurements about pipe integrity. Practically all of the pipe system carries a small electric charge that helps reduce corrosion and such. Many smart pigs these days use magnetic resonance sensor and similar techniques to provide some visual analysis of pipe health.
The general size:processing ratio of Parallella along with specialized streaming capabilities make it ideal. Could be a good project for someone looking to build out a very serious product prototype. The quality standards are very high and quite strict, while at the same time a fairly straight-forward machine in terms of robotics.
